JACIR, is a glance at the divided U.S. political system through the eyes of a Syrian refugee as he faces the harsh realities of chasing the American dream all the while living in poverty on the streets of Memphis, TN.
Knowing very little English and far from the ideal new American life he imagined Jacir (Rahbani) stops a late-night robbery that brings him face-to-face with his opioid-addicted, conservative, and racist neighbor, Meryl (Bracco), they both embark on a fraught journey to grow beyond each others prejudices.
Strong performances from Academy Award®-nominee Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas, Pinocchio) Lebanese newcomer Malek Rahbani, and Memphis native Tutweezy make JACIR uncomfortable, heartfelt, and laugh-out-loud funny.
Writer & Director Waheed AlQawasmi takes an authentic and gritty look at the refugee crises and the division in American Society, in this directorial debut.
